The Gorge is a narrow tidal inlet in Victoria running from Selkirk Trestle to the Craigflower Bridge. The inlet became a popular recreation destination for the area's residents as Victoria grew.

The hospital was initially named Pacific Colony (1927-1953), followed by Pacific State Hospital (1953-1979); Frank D. Lanterman State Hospital and Developmental Center; and finally Lanterman Developmental Center, which closed in 2015.

Built. Initial appropriation of $100,000 was reduced to $50,000, so only one half of the plan was built. The tower was eliminated.

Constructed in the Neo-baroque, Renaissance Revival and Romanesque Revival architectural style (Francis Rattenbury, architect), the British Columbia Parliament Buildings were completed in 1897, and are home to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.
