Caption: "Jackson Park - Chicago," c. 1923. The Grand Basin at Jackson Park. This 500-acre park was originally designed for use as the site of the World's Columbian Exposition (also called the Chicago World's Fair), held in 1893. The Grand Basin was a large reflecting pool at the center of the Exposition, around which the main buildings were constructed.

Caption: "Mount Ranier [sic], Wash.," c. 1908-1912. View of Mount Rainier, the highest peak in the Cascade Range and in the state of Washington, and part of the eastern rim of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Although it is now dormant, it is considered to be a high-risk volcano.

Caption: "Morro Castle -- Havana -- Cuba. July 4, 1934." Morro Castle, also called Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos del Morro, has guarded the entrance to Havana's harbor since 1589. Various additions have been built over the years, including the Faro Castillo del Morro Lighthouse, added in 1846. Morro Castle currently houses the offices of the Havana Harbormaster, and operates as a museum.

Caption: "Martinez Court House," c. 1905-1906. View of the Martinez Courthouse, built in 1901 and designed by William H. Toepke. In 1933, Martinez built a new Hall of Records, into which the courts subsequently moved. The 1901 courthouse became the Finance Building in 1966.

Built between 1848 and 1888 to commemorate George Washington (former Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army and first President of the United States), the obelisk is the world's tallest stone structure at a height of 555 feet. The Gatling gun was an early rapid-fire, crank-turned weapon first used during combat in the Civil War. Developed in 1861 by Dr. Richard J. Gatling, the weapon was commonly used during the late nineteenth century before being superseded by newer, more modern guns.

Caption: "Washington Monument - Fairmount Park - Philadelphia," c. 1925. Philadelphia's Washington Monument Fountain (Rudolf Siemering, sculptor) features a bronze and granite statute of George Washington on horseback. Dedicated at Fairmount Park in 1897, it was moved to Philadelphia's Eakins Oval in 1928.
