Pinnacles National Park was formerly Pinnacles National Monument, established in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt. The rock formations are the eroded remains of the Neenach Volcano.

Caption: "Ashland Armory," c. 1915-1920. View of the National Guard Armory built in Ashland, Oregon. Designed by Oregon's first State Architect William C. Knighton, the armory has also been used as a community hall since its construction in 1912-1913.

Caption: "Old Hermitage, Savannah, Georgia, July 15, 1934." The remains of the Hermitage Plantation mansion, built in 1830, can be seen through trees draped with Spanish moss. Hermitage was a 400-acre plantation on the Savannah River, owned by Henry McAlpin. McAlpin not only conducted farming operations at the planation, but also manufactured bricks, barrels, cast iron products, and lumber.

This photograph shows part of the main corridor of Utah's State Capitol Building, featuring an equestrian statue of Chief Washakie, leader of the eastern Shoshone (artist unknown). Visible above the entrance to the chambers of the House of Representatives is a mural painted by Gerard Hale and Gilbert White entitled Reclaiming the Desert for Irrigation.

Caption: "Agua Caliente Swimming Pool -- Mexico -- May 20, 34." View of the swimming pool, with bathers and people socializing around the water, at Agua Caliente Casino and Resort. Designed by Wayne McAllister, the resort opened in Tijuana in 1928. It closed only a few years later, in 1935, when Mexican President Lázaro Cárdenas outlawed gambling.

Caption: "Vancouver Hotel, Vancouver, B.C.," c. 1908-1912. View of the Hotel Vancouver, designed by architect T.C. Sorly for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). This photograph shows the first building on the site, which opened in 1888. By 1916, the area had grown so much that the CPR razed this building and constructed a new, larger, more modern facility.

Caption: "O.W.R. & N. R.R. Depot -- Seattle.," c. 1915. Station building for the Oregon-Washington Railroad and Navigation Company, formed in 1910 from the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company as a subsidiary of the Union Pacific Railroad. Designed by architect Daniel J. Patterson, the Beaux Arts-style station opened in 1911.

Caption: "San Francisco April 18 1906." A view of the city of San Francisco ablaze after the 1906 earthquake. Considered one of the worst natural disasters in the country's history, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and resulting fires killed an estimated 3,000 people and destroyed over 500 city blocks, leaving approximately 200,000 residents homeless.

This was one of the first border stations and was situated in desert country; its purpose was to provide a stopping place for inspection of motor traffic coming into California in order to enforce quarantine against insect infestation of California agricultural products.
