The hospital was initially named Pacific Colony (1927-1953), followed by Pacific State Hospital (1953-1979); Frank D. Lanterman State Hospital and Developmental Center; and finally Lanterman Developmental Center, which closed in 2015.

Constructed between 1793 and 1800 and designed by architect William Thornton, the building has undergone several expansions, including the addition of the wedding-cake-style dome in the 1850s.

Shows the island and structures associated with the East Brother Island Lighthouse, lit in 1874 in San Rafael Bay near Richmond, California. The light was automated in 1969. After restoration in the early 1980s, the lighthouse now operates as a bed-and-breakfast.

Photograph showing some of the train cars involved in a June 19, 1913 accident in which two trains of the San Francisco, Napa Valley and Calistoga Railroad collided head-on approximately 2.4 miles north of Vallejo. Ten passengers and three railroad employees were killed, and twenty-eight others injured.
