Caption: "Morro Castle -- Havana -- Cuba. July 4, 1934." Morro Castle, also called Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos del Morro, has guarded the entrance to Havana's harbor since 1589. Various additions have been built over the years, including the Faro Castillo del Morro Lighthouse, added in 1846. Morro Castle currently houses the offices of the Havana Harbormaster, and operates as a museum.

No caption. Grace McCarthy standing next to an exhibit by the San Monte Fruit Company at the 1912 "Big Week" in Salinas (Monterey County), an event still celebrated today as the Salinas Rodeo. The exhibit consists of a globe made of apples and apple slices. See also 96-07-08-alb05-062.

Design and drawing of California State Building for Nevada Highways Exposition in Reno, Nevada, by Alfred Eichler, c. 1926; from packet of designs and plans by Eichler for the Transcontinental Highways Exposition of 1927. Built. Initial appropriation of $100,000 was reduced to $50,000, so only one half of the plan was built. The tower was eliminated.

Built between 1848 and 1888 to commemorate George Washington (former Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army and first President of the United States), the obelisk is the world's tallest stone structure at a height of 555 feet. Caption: "Niagara Falls," c. 1925. View of the three waterfalls that make up the iconic Niagara Falls straddling the border between Ontario, Canada, and the State of New York. From near distance to far distance, the falls are called American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls (the smallest of the three), and Horseshoe Falls.

Caption: "Sea Coast Guns.," c. 1908-1912. View of a disappearing coastal defense gun, with its carriage. Retracting or disappearing guns were a form of artillery developed in the nineteenth century in which heavy artillery guns were placed on rotating carriages that allowed retraction of the weapon after firing, to enable reloading while under enemy fire.

Caption: "Washington Monument - Fairmount Park - Philadelphia," c. 1925. Philadelphia's Washington Monument Fountain (Rudolf Siemering, sculptor) features a bronze and granite statute of George Washington on horseback. Dedicated at Fairmount Park in 1897, it was moved to Philadelphia's Eakins Oval in 1928.
