    Caption: "Bird's Eye View. Camp Lewis, Wash.," c. 1918. This postcard shows a bird's eye view of buildings at Camp Lewis. The Camp was established by the U.S. Army in 1917, as part of the U.S.'s preparations for eventual entry into World War I. Rapid construction had the camp ready to house 60,000 men within a few months. The site is still in use as a military facility, under the name Fort Lewis.

Two unidentified men standing in front of a large barn or shed, with numerous barrels surrounding them, presumably for turpentine and other resin products. After being harvested from pine trees, resin is then subjected to steam distillation to evaporate off the turpentine.

    Caption: "Fort Canby Lighthouse, Wash.," c. 1910. View of the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse on a rocky point overlooking the mouth of the Columbia River. Cannons and cannon balls are stored on the lighthouse property. Built in the 1850s, the lighthouse was electrified in 1934 and automated in 1973. The lighthouse is now part of the Cape Disappointment State Park (formerly Fort Canby State Park).
