The Gorge is a narrow tidal inlet in Victoria running from Selkirk Trestle to the Craigflower Bridge. The inlet became a popular recreation destination for the area's residents as Victoria grew.

Caption: "Ringling Museum -- Sarasota -- Florida, June 28 1934." Entrance to the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Florida's state art museum established by John and Mable Ringling in 1927. John was a promoter and part-owner of the famous Ringling Brothers Circus, along with four of his brothers. When John and Mable built a winter home in Sarasota in 1926, they also explored the possibility of establishing an art gallery on the same property. Architect John H. Phillips designed the building, which opened to the public in 1931. John Ringling willed the facility and the art collection to the state of Florida upon his death in 1936. The museum, now known simply as "The Ringling," is under the jurisdiction of the University of Florida.

Caption: "Tybee Beach, Savannah, Georgia, July 14, 1934." Beach scene with a small crowd of unidentified people enjoying the ocean waves and strolling in the sand. The large Tybrisa Pavilion, set on a wood pier, extends into the water. Tybee Beach is one of several beaches in Tybee Island, a town on an island of the same name located across the river from Savannah. The island became a popular tourist spot between the Civil War and the mid-twentieth century, particularly after the Central of Georgia Railway constructed a line to the island. To encourage tourists, the railroad built Tybrisa Pavilion in 1891. It featured a large dance floor that became popular on the Big Band circuit, but was destroyed by fire in 1967.

Caption: "Street Car Strike," c. 1907. San Francisco's street car union workers called for a strike after their request to be paid three dollars per eight- hour work day was declined. At the start of the strike, two strikers were shot by strike breakers and many more causalities were reported. Hundreds of passengers were injured during the strike due to inexperienced operators, and twenty-five of those passengers died as a result. In total, the upheaval resulted in thirty-one causalities.
