Caption: "In Memory of Florida Confederates, Memorial Monument -- Pensacola Florida, June 21, 34." Photograph of the pillar and statue erected in Pensacola's Lee Square in 1891, memorializing "the Uncrowned Heroes of the Southern Confederacy" and Confederate leaders such as Jefferson Davis. Two low pyramids made up of cannon balls bracket the monument. As of the time of this writing (November 2017), controversy swirls around efforts to remove the memorial.

In the years following the passage of the 1911 state suffrage amendment, supporters continued to advocate for the federal enfranchisement of women across the country. Suffragists created and distributed ephemera to publicize their cause and gain support for the movement, including literature, pennants, posters, shopping bags, playing cards, postcards, and pin-back buttons, such as this ribbon with a “Votes for Women” pin from 1912.

Caption: "Coney Island. Sunday Crowd. New York. Aug. 19, 1934." Very crowded beach scene on New York's Coney Island. The construction of several resort hotels on the island in the 1870s and 1880s encouraged construction of amusement parks to provide tourist destinations. Coney Island has hosted several large amusement parks over the years, including one of the world's first roller coasters (built in 1884). Numerous smaller attractions were available as well. The island's popularity peaked in the mid-twentieth century, in the World War II era, but despite some decline is still a world-renowned recreation area.
