Eliza Smart (standing, on the left), two unidentified women, and nine children posing on the porch of a house with wood siding. This is one of the few photographs in which the McCarthys identified some of the people who they met along their travels.

Caption: "Obelisk - Central Park," c. 1925. The obelisk in this photograph was erected in Central Park on February 22nd, 1881. It is an authentic Ancient Egyptian artifact, having been created during the rule of Thusmose III in the 18th Dynasty (despite the nickname, the obelisk has no known connection to Cleopatra). It was acquired in 1877 as a gift from the Egyptian Khedive.

Glacier Point, on the south wall of the valley 3,200 feet above what is now known as Half Dome Village, provides panoramic views of the valley and many of its features.
