Caption: "George Washingtons [sic] Home, Mt. Vernon, Virginia. July 22, 1934." View of Mount Vernon, the plantation home of George and Martha Washington. Built between 1758 and 1778, the Palladian-style mansion is now owned in trust by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and open to the public.

Caption: "Bamboo Grows 12 to 16 Inches Per Day and 50 or 60 Feet High in 6 or 7 Weeks. Bamboo Propagating Farm, Burrows, Georgia. July 13, 1934." Grace McCarthy stands next to an automobile on the side of a road under trees. The other side of the road is flanked by rows of bamboo plants. This may be part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Savannah Plant Introduction Station, established in approximately 1919 in the Burroughs Station area southwest of Savannah. The station remained open until 1979, when it was closed by USDA budgetary downsizing. The property was subsequently deeded to the University of Georgia, in 1983.

Caption: "Echo Park [sic] Los Angeles," c. 1906. Unidentified man leaning on a railing made of tree branches, with palm trees and other vegetation in the background. Echo Lake Park opened in 1895. The lake was originally created in 1868 to support the operations of a mill. The mill, however, closed seven years later. The site was later selected for conversion to a city park.

Caption: "State Capitol, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Sept. 29, 1934". Wyoming's State Capitol Building in Cheyenne was built between 1886 and 1890. Designed by the architectural firm David W. Gibbs & Company, the building features Renaissance Revival styling and elements.

Caption: "San Francisco April 22, 1906. Center of Town." Shows the city center in ruins after the earthquake and fires. Considered one of the worst natural disasters in the country's history, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and resulting fires killed an estimated 3,000 people and destroyed over 500 city blocks, leaving approximately 200,000 residents homeless.

Caption: "Steamer PRINCESS VICTORIA at Vancouver [sic] dock, B.C.," c. 1908-1912. The Princess Victoria was constructed in 1902 by England's C.S. Swan and Hunter Company shipyards. The luxury passenger ship was operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company on routes between Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia and Seattle in Washington until she was sold in 1951 to an oil carrier. Shortly thereafter, in 1953, she struck a rock and sank.

Caption: "Call Building," c. 1906. The remains of the Call building after the 1906 earthquake and fire. Completed in 1898 and designed by civic leader Claus Spreckels, the Call building on the corner of 3rd and Market streets was one of the first skyscrapers in San Francisco, built to house the San Francisco Call newspaper offices. While the structure withstood the 1906 earthquake, the interior caught fire and sustained considerable damage. After major renovations, the building is today known as The Central Tower.
