Ritchie, architect), the Romanesque-style building features a 124-foot clock tower, red bricks from St. Louis, and sandstone from Alaska.

Caption: "Grant Statue - Lincoln Park - Chicago," c. 1923. Installed in 1891, the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial, created by Louis Rebisso (sculptor), is located in the east end of Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo. It commemorates Ulysses S. Grant, former U.S. Army General and 18th President of the U.S.

No caption, c. 1915. Twelve-inch disappearing coastal defense gun, showing the breech of the barrel where shells are loaded and ejected. Retracting or disappearing guns were a form of artillery developed in the nineteenth century in which heavy artillery guns were placed on rotating carriages that allowed retraction of the weapon after firing, to enable reloading while under enemy fire.

Caption: "Hollywood Hotel," c. 1915-1916. Façade of Hotel Hollywood, with automobile parked on street outside. The hotel, originally built in 1902 and expanded in 1905, served as a social venue for many of Hollywood's early film stars. It was torn down in 1956 to make way for an office building.
