Caption: "East Lake [sic] Park," c. 1910. Eastlake Park in Los Angeles was originally created by the city in 1881 under the name "East Los Angeles Park." Renamed Eastlake Park in 1901, it gained its current name, Lincoln Park, in 1917. In this photograph, Grace McCarthy, seen from across East Lake, stands at the lake's edge on the right, surrounded by lush vegetation and park benches.

Caption: "City Hall - N.Y," c. 1925. View of the façade of New York City's City Hall. The French Renaissance style building, designed by architect John McComb, Jr., was constructed between 1803 and 1811. The statue Civic Virtue Triumphant Over Unrighteousness (Frederick William MacMonnies, sculptor) stands in front of the building. The statue, unveiled in 1922, has subsequently been moved. It now stands in Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery.

Caption: "Sloppy Joes Bar, Havana July 4, 1934." William and Grace McCarthy (at the far right) having drinks with three unidentified men in Sloppy Joe's Bar, a drinking establishment owned by Jose Garcia. American tourists flocked to the bar in the 1930s and 1940s, as it attracted illustrious visitors such as John Wayne and Clark Gable. The bar was closed in 1959 after the Cuban revolution.

Caption: "San Diego Exposition," c. 1915-1916. Grace McCarthy and unidentified people in automobile at the Panama-California Exposition in San Diego. The Panama-California Exposition was held in San Diego in 1915 and 1916 to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. It was smaller in scale and less well-funded than the Panama-Pacific International Exposition held in 1915 in San Francisco. See also 96-07-08-alb05-071.

Constructed in the Neo-baroque, Renaissance Revival and Romanesque Revival architectural style (Francis Rattenbury, architect), the British Columbia Parliament Buildings were completed in 1897, and are home to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.

Caption: "Dry Dock, Bremerton." Bremerton, Washington, c. 1908-1912. See also 96-07-08-alb08-085. View of a dry dock at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. Established in 1891 as a naval station, it became Naval Yard Puget Sound in 1901. During World War I the shipyard constructed hundreds of ships to support the war effort, while in World War II, the shipyard was dedicated primarily to repairing damaged ships. Today, it contains a portion of the U.S. Navy's mothball fleet (ships retired but retained in case of future need), as well as building, repairing, and maintaining sea-going vessels of all kinds.
