    Caption: "Benicia Arsenal Store House," c. 1905. The Benicia Arsenal Store House, also known as the Clocktower building, was erected in 1859 at three stories high. In 1912, an explosion and fire caused extensive damage, after which it was rebuilt as a two-story structure.

After the earthquake and fire that destroyed much of San Francisco in April 1906, hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless. Many of these people established temporary refugee camps, using debris from the destruction to cobble together shelters.

Designed by Wayne McAllister, the resort opened in Tijuana in 1928. It closed only a few years later, in 1935, when Mexican President Lázaro Cárdenas outlawed gambling.

Heath photograph, this image shows a heavy artillery gun, with two unidentified men standing next to it, at the Sandy Hook Proving Ground. Located at Sandy Hook, New Jersey, the Sandy Hook Proving Ground was used by the U.S. Army to test ordinance and materiel from 1874-1919. See also 96-07-08-alb05-101.

    Caption: "Steamer PRINCESS VICTORIA at Vancouver [sic] dock, B.C.," c. 1908-1912. The Princess Victoria was constructed in 1902 by England's C.S. Swan and Hunter Company shipyards. The luxury passenger ship was operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company on routes between Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia and Seattle in Washington until she was sold in 1951 to an oil carrier. Shortly thereafter, in 1953, she struck a rock and sank.
