The celebrations occupied an entire week, kicked off by Pedestrian Day, when more 200,000 people were allowed to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge on foot or on roller skates, the day before the bridge opened for vehicular traffic.

Mount Dora, settled in 1874, is thus named because the town sits on a low plateau approximately 184 feet above sea level, an unusual feature in a state whose mean elevation above sea level is 100 feet.
