Caption: "Sutro Baths Interior," c. 1910. Interior shot of the Sutro Baths, north of the Cliff House. Designed by Adolph Sutro in 1894, the bathhouses at one time covered three oceanfront acres just north of Ocean Beach and the Cliff House. Eventually the Sutro Baths fell into disrepair and what was left of them burned down in 1966. Since 1973, the concrete ruins have been part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Caption: "Cliff House." People standing on Ocean Beach watching the third Cliff House burning in San Francisco, in 1907. The original Cliff House was built in 1858. The second was built in 1863 and was destroyed by fire on Christmas day in 1894. The third Victorian- style Cliff House was completed in 1896, and although it survived the 1906 earthquake and fires, it burned to the ground in 1907, as seen in this image. A fourth Cliff House was then built with steel-reinforced concrete and opened in 1909.

Caption: "Capitol Building -- Havana -- Cuba. July 4, 1934." The building seen in this photograph, reminiscent of the U.S. Capitol, served as Cuba's Capitol from its completion in 1929 until after the Cuban Revolution of 1959. Designed by Eugenio Rayneri Piedra, the building now houses the Cuban Academy of Sciences.

Caption: "Smith Building -- Seattle." View of the neoclassical Smith Tower in Seattle, built by industrialist Lyman Cornelius Smith. At the time of its completion in 1914, the Smith Tower was the tallest building on the West Coast, until being superseded by the Space Needle in 1962. See also 96-07-08-alb05-177.

Caption: "City Hall, San Francisco, May 14, 1934." View of San Francisco's Beaux-Arts style City Hall (principle architect: Arthur Brown, Jr.). This building, opened in 1915, replaced San Francisco's original City Hall, which was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire. The date with which the photograph was labeled (May 14, 1934) does not appear to be accurate. The date is more likely circa 1925. See also 96-07-08-alb09-003 and 005, and 96-07-08-alb10-01.

Caption: "Stow Lake," in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, c. 1910. Stow lake is a manmade lake in Golden Gate Park dating back to 1893. Visitors still enjoy Stow Lake today, engaging in activities such as boating and picnicking by the lake.
