Caption: "Berheimer [sic] Brothers Japanese Type Home, Los Angeles, May 18, 1934." View of the mansion built by brothers Adolph and Eugene Bernheimer in 1914, in the Hollywood Hills area. Designed by Franklin Small, the form of the mansion is based upon a Japanese villa. It is now home to the Yamashiro restaurant and hotel.

Caption: "Sierra Summit Scene - Tioga Pass," c. 1917. Patches of snow litter the walls of Tioga Pass, while a small stream cascades down the hillside. California State Route 120 runs through the pass, providing an eastern entry into Yosemite National Park.

No caption, c. 1935. William McCarthy on the steep trail to the summit of the iconic Half Dome, in the Yosemite Valley. The cables used to assist hikers follow a route laid down by George Anderson, who reached the summit in 1875.

Caption: "Washington State Capitol -- Olympia.," c. 1920. Also known as The Castle, this building served as Washington's state capitol building from 1905 to 1928, when the Legislature moved into the current building. The central tower of The Castle was lost in a 1928 fire, while numerous other towers fell to the 1949 Olympia earthquake. Some of those towers have been restored.
