    Caption: "Bonaventure Cemetery Driveway, Savannah, Georgia, July 14, 1934." Road stretching into the distance, flanked by trees dripping with Spanish moss. The Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah originated in a private cemetery on a plantation. The plantation was sold in 1846. Major William H. Wiltberger, son of the new owner, formed the Evergreen Cemetery Company in 1868. The City of Savannah purchased the company and cemetery in 1907, and changed its name to Bonaventure Cemetery.

    Caption: "Clife [sic] House S.F.," c. 1908-1912. View of San Francisco's Cliff House overlooking Ocean Beach. The building shown here is the fourth iteration of the Cliff House, a neo-classical design built after a fire destroyed the Victorian structure previously at the site in 1907. Reconstruction of the iconic restaurant began in 1908, and a new Cliff House opened in 1909 (the building in this photograph). This neo-classical building was extensively remodeled in the 1930s.

    Caption: "A.Y.P.E. Seattle Oregon Bldg." View of Oregon Building and bandstand, part of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. Held in Seattle to celebrate the development of the Pacific Northwest, the fair attracted 3.7 million visitors over the course of its run from June to October 1909. Although most of the fair's buildings have since been destroyed, several of them now serve as part of the University of Washington campus.

    Caption: "El Mirado Hotel-Palm Springs, Calif. May 30, 1935." The Spanish Colonial-Revival style El Mirado Hotel at Palm Springs opened in 1927 and became one of the most fashionable resort destinations for powerful Hollywood studio heads and celebrities. Here Grace is seen posing at the edge of the hotel's famous "plunge."

    Caption: "Morro Castle -- Havana -- Cuba. July 4, 1934." Morro Castle, also called Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos del Morro, has guarded the entrance to Havana's harbor since 1589. Various additions have been built over the years, including the Faro Castillo del Morro Lighthouse, added in 1846. Morro Castle currently houses the offices of the Havana Harbormaster, and operates as a museum.

Built between 1848 and 1888 to commemorate George Washington (former Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army and first President of the United States), the obelisk is the world's tallest stone structure at a height of 555 feet. See also 96-07-08-alb04-075.
