Caption: "12" Disappearing Gun," c. 1915. Looking up at the undercarriage of a 12" disappearing gun aimed over a high parapet. Retracting or disappearing guns were a form of artillery developed in the nineteenth century in which heavy artillery guns were placed on rotating carriages that allowed retraction of the weapon after firing, to enable reloading while under enemy fire.

Caption: "Broadway, Los Angeles." Broadway is a major thoroughfare of Los Angeles and one of the oldest in the city, laid out in 1849 as Fort Street, and renamed Broadway in 1890. Caption: "42nd Street. City Library on right, New York City, N.Y. Aug. 15, 1934." Busy street scene along New York City's 42nd Street, showing numerous pedestrians, automobiles, and street trolleys. On the right side of the photograph can be seen the side of the New York Public Library's main building, opened in 1911. At the time of its opening, the Library's main reading room was the largest of its kind in the world.

Project for Department of Mental Hygiene - Hospitals. The hospital was initially named Pacific Colony (1927-1953), followed by Pacific State Hospital (1953-1979); Frank D. Lanterman State Hospital and Developmental Center; and finally Lanterman Developmental Center, which closed in 2015.
