No Caption: See also 96-07-08-alb08-140 with caption: "Fort Columbia, Wash." c. 1910. Fort Columbia, built between 1896 and 1904, sits on Chinook Point overlooking the Columbia River. It is part of the Three Fort Harbor Defense System protecting the mouth of the river from enemy incursion or attack (the other forts being Oregon's Fort Stevens and Washington's Fort Canby). Fort Columbia was decomissioned after World War II, and is now the site of a Washington State Park.

Caption: "Dry Dock, Bremerton." Bremerton, Washington, c. 1908-1912. See also 96-07-08-alb08-085. View of a dry dock at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. Established in 1891 as a naval station, it became Naval Yard Puget Sound in 1901. During World War I the shipyard constructed hundreds of ships to support the war effort, while in World War II, the shipyard was dedicated primarily to repairing damaged ships. Today, it contains a portion of the U.S. Navy's mothball fleet (ships retired but retained in case of future need), as well as building, repairing, and maintaining sea-going vessels of all kinds.

Caption: "City Hall and McKinley Monument. Buffalo, New York. Sept. 11, 1934, McKinley Monument." Buffalo's City Hall dominates this photograph. Designed by architect John Wade, the Art Deco-style building was completed in 1931. The white obelisk of McKinley Monument rises to the right of City Hall, commemorating William McKinley, 25th President of the US. He was shot while attending the World's Fair in Buffalo in 1901.
