No Caption: c. 1935. Pictured are William and Grace McCarthy standing at the entrance to the famous Wawona Tunnel Tree, a giant sequoia that stood in Mariposa Grove of Yosemite National Park. The tree's tunnel was cut in 1881 as a tourist attraction. In 1969, the tree fell during a severe winter storm. Before it fell, the ancient tree measured 234 ft. high, twenty-six ft. in diameter, and was approximately 2,100 years old.

Caption: "Hialeah Race Track -- Miami -- Florida July 1, 1934." View of the infield at Hialeah Park Race Track. Constructed in 1922 as a greyhound racetrack, Hialeah began hosting horse races in 1925. Joseph E. Widener purchased the track in 1930. He embarked upon a series of improvements, adding a grandstand (seen here) and clubhouse facilities designed by Lester W. Geisler, as well as landscaped gardens and a lake in the infield that became home to a flock of flamingos. The new and improved Hialeah track, now called Hialeah Park, officially opened in 1932.

Caption: "Del Monte.," c. 1920. William and Grace McCarthy standing with an automobile in front of the Hotel Del Monte. The second of three hotels built on the site, near Monterey, California, the building in this photograph was destroyed by fire in 1924. The property surrounding the hotel became known as Pebble Beach, now a world-renowned resort and golf course.
