    Caption: "Bok Singing Tower, Lake Wales -- Florida, June 26, 1934." View of the Bok Singing Tower in the Bok Tower Gardens, a 250-acre contemplative garden and bird sanctuary dedicated in 1929. The 205-foot-tall tower, designed by architect Milton B. Medary, was completed by February 1929. It features Gothic Revival and Art Deco detailing. A 60-bell carillon can be played by a clavier (keyboard) in the bell chamber.

Retracting or disappearing guns were a form of artillery developed in the nineteenth century in which heavy artillery guns were placed on rotating carriages that allowed retraction of the weapon after firing, to enable reloading while under enemy fire.

    Caption: "Indian over 100 years old," c. 1905. Elderly man, possibly of Native American ethnicity, standing in front of a barn. Taken around 1905 in San Diego near the Old Mission, If William McCarthy's description is accurate, this person was born while California was under Spanish rule. Possibly of the Kumeyaay tribe, whose members had lived in the area long before the Spanish arrived, he may have lived and worked at Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá (Mission San Diego) or at a nearby Indian village.

Automobile parked along adobe building with sign proclaiming "Ramona's Marriage Place," referring to the fictional character Ramona from Helen Hunt Jackson's novel of the same name. The building, known as Casa de Estudillo, was built in 1827 by José María Estudillo.
